I've just been disfellowshipped!
by maksutov inapparently it was announced last night.
i was not informed (for 'legal reasons'), but they phoned my dad and told him.
i understand it is due to my apostate book.

Thanks for sharing your news and the link to your book. I'm going to share it with a friend of ours who was just DF'd . I scanned through it and it covers a lot of topics that she is dealing with. Her only daughter is shunning her and she is somewhat troubled with residual worries that JW's may be right even though she intellectually knows better.
Hopefully your family will be of the more open minded variety that seem to be growing in number lately.

They might be driving me nuts
by stillin inthe "boasting session" last night included forcing the congregation to watch that stupid witnessing cart video.
then the brother handling the part discusses what a "powerful witness" is being given each time those carts roll out into public view.. experiences: had a nice conversation with a young man.
a woman took a tract.

My Son who grew up as a JW but left a few years ago when we did, now attends the University near us and is almost finished with his Environmental Science degree. He say's there's a JW cart parked outside the main entrance to the campus every day. Apparently it's manned by people his age...usually 20 something girls and sometimes guys and there's a older man always lurking nearby trying to look inconspicuous but any former JW would recognize him as an "elder" or "servant" planted there for security reasons.
His take is that little or no attention is paid to them by the students passing by. The JW's are usually looking at their phones or talking to each other (who could blame them) and the "Brother" sometimes has his Grey Bible open but isn't really reading it.
My Son is 6'2" and a handsome, nicely dressed fellow as are his 2 study partners. He says those guys have both made comments, independent of each other about the cart to the effect "Don't those people have jobs or go to school....how can they afford to just be sitting here every day?"
He said to me " I might be imagining it Dad, because I used to be a JW, but more than once I've seen the girls look at us when we walk by and it's as if they are thinking..."those guys are worldly but they seem so clean cut and normal." He said he gets the feeling that they are looking wistfully at all the students passing by and it seems as if they are wondering if they might be wasting their time.
Not so long ago my Son was part of the popular young JW crowd himself but was really put off by the double lifers and especially the messed up JW girls he encountered. Often, because of his good looks, people assumed he was leading a double life himself and it irked him to no end to go to parties and see these kids who were passing themselves off as good JW's, drinking to ridiculous excess and using their parents antidepressants to get high, then on some later occasion, chastise him for not being baptized yet. He realizes that as a former JW who had a bad experience with it, he may be projecting his own thoughts onto the young people manning the Witnessing Carts but I'm guessing there's more truth in what he says than imagination.

I wonder what the Watchtower Legal Dept. would do if Dr.Singh wrote an article for a widely distributed science journal and used one of their quotes out of context to make it look like they were now supporting evolution? -

According to popular opinion here, there have been many specific instances of past scholastic dishonesty on the part of the Watchtower. If that is the case and if Mr. Singh was serious when he made reference to this misquote as a "deliberate attempt to damage his reputation", a lawsuit might be in order. If nothing else, it would be another recent public expose' of a not-so-perfect Watchtower. -

It would be nice if Mr. Singh would press the matter legally. It might annoy him enough to pursue the matter if he knew about how they recently dodged a big pedophile scandal by covering their tracks and not owning up to anything. Maybe with a little encouragement from us, he might consider it. If so, it would be the first time ever (to my knowledge) that the Watchtower ever admitted a "mistake" apologized for anything. -

“We are not done yet!” – Candace Conti reacts to appeal court decision
by Watchtower-Free inhttp://jwsurvey.org/cedars-blog/we-are-not-done-yet-candace-reacts-to-appeal-court-decision.
candace conti (pictured in her interview with abc) has spoken out for the first time about the appeal court decision.
as current and former jehovahs witnesses digest the news that watchtowers appeal against the candace conti verdict has faltered, albeit with the punitive element of the judgment reversed, candace has reacted for the first time by telling me: we are not done yet.. news spread on monday that the state appeals court in san francisco had upheld the $2.8 million compensatory damages in the original june 2012 verdict, but overturned the $8.6 million punitive award against watchtower.. the court decided that, though watchtower had neglected its responsibility to supervise known pedophile jonathan kendrick in field ministry, a church-sponsored activity, the organization had no duty to warn parents in the congregation that a pedophile was in their midst or report him to authorities.. an insightful report by investigative reporter trey bundy has suggested that the court reached its decision because the precedent set by the conti verdict might be too burdensome to enforce.. the burden would be considerable because the precedent could require a church to intervene whenever it has reason to believe that a congregation member is capable of doing harm, and the scope of that duty could not be limited with any precision, the judges wrote.. candaces attorney rick simons responded by pointedly telling bundy: they think in public policy terms that theres too much risk in broadening the churchs responsibility and liability so that it burdens what churches do.

The court decided that, though Watchtower had neglected its responsibility to supervise known pedophile Jonathan Kendrick in field ministry, a “church-sponsored activity,” the organization had NO duty to warn parents in the congregation that a pedophile was in their midst or report him to authorities.
The Watchtower has no legal duty to "warn" the congregation when consenting adults commit fornication or adultery yet they waste no time in doing so from the platform when they disfellowship someone and then have a talk that hints at the offense shortly afterward and they tell every congregation that the person later attends. Their congregation file follows them wherever they go.

Struggling
by Alive! ini read here regularly and although i haven't joined in, i really appreciate all the wonderful contributions from those who are willing to share their experiences.... .
i was a convert.
i won't go into the whole history ( perhaps another day) - my story could easily be recognised in the small town where i live, with my husband.. so, we stopped going to the meetings around a period of time when we were going through severe emotional difficulties - at that point, we needed unconditional family love - the hectic, forced jw dinner parties and social occasions gave no real comfort.

Over the past 48 hours I can sense that I'm letting "stuff" that was really upsetting me over the years take on real meaning.
Be patient with yourself ALIVE...you are grieving in a sense and you'll have to go through all the stages of grief before you're out of the woods.
They say when you suffer a loss or are undergoing a big life change, you should allow one month of grieving time for every year you were involved in the (activity/relationship/job) you are grieving the loss of.
